Meyda Beginnings

Co-Founder Meyer Cohen at his studio workshop in Old Forge, NY
where he spent many summers working on his craft.

For the sake of not having to look through the window of their neighbor’s driveway at their antique vehicles, Meyer Cohen was asked by his wife Ida, who merged their names to form the moniker Meyda, to design a stained glass window for their kitchen. What began as a personal project has grown into one of the most innovative companies in the lighting industry.

All of the Cohens’ sons are now in charge of Meyda as a family company, together with Chester and Max, the Cohens’ grandchildren. The Meyda family has grown and thrived at our headquarters and production facilities in Upstate New York.

In the early 1900s, the Meyda family supplied Tiffany Studios in New York City with innovative lighting designs. Its products, most of which are created in foreign factories, are known as Meyda Tiffany copies and designs made using the well-known copper-foil manufacturing method.

Meyda Custom Lighting has the ability to build American-made architectural lighting, from a complete set of exquisite luminaires to this one-of-a-kind masterpiece for the environment. Neither a little project nor a large project is too small.

Glass luminaires fused with stunning and different designs, such as artistry, may be found in Metro Fusion.

Due to the fact that we are located in the Adirondack Mountains in Upstate New York, many of our products are inspired by the local fauna and terrain.

Your family name, emblem, or business may be incorporated into a piece of custom lighting. Customized designs may be built to your exact specifications, including style, color, size, full, and lighting, such as energy-efficient LED.

Meyda’s decades of expertise in lighting design, engineering, and production enable the company to create products and services that are superior to standard architectural lighting, while yet fitting any budget. Stained-glass windows, chandeliers, and other lighting fixtures may all be created to meet your precise requirements by our talented team.

The imagination is the sole limit to the ideas that fuel our decorative palette, from wonders to ancient stories.

Meyda acquired high-quality bent glass businesses that produced lighting fixtures and supplied them to Tiffany Studios in New York City in the 1900s. Quality bent glass original instruments, molds & processes are used today to manufacture vintage lighting goods. Meyda bought Mexico Artwork, a metal art studio, in the mid-1990s and now uses its technology and production procedures to make stunning custom-crafted décor and lighting under the Meyda custom light brand.

There are hundreds of Meyda lighting types available in the United States via good vendors. Designs based on the works of Louis relaxation Tiffany, Dirk Van Erp, Gustav Stickley, and other masters have been included. Among them are Arts & Crafts, Rustic Gothic Revival, Gothic Revival, and modern elements. You’ll find chandeliers, pendants, outdoor lighting, and more in our large collection of billiard and kitchen island fixtures, as well as floor and table lamps.
